Kits Pool Opening and New Kits Pool Advancement
Hello Kits Pool Swimmers,
The Park Board has informed us that everything is on schedule for Kits Pool to open on the Victoria Day long weekend.
And the good news continues. We have made significant strides in advocating for Kits Pool and the unparalleled experience it offers. In discussions with the Mayor, Council, and the Park Board, we have been met with strong support and a shared appreciation for our vision, exemplified by the KITS 137.5 theme. Building on his efforts last summer to support the Kits Pool Swimmers community and salvage a season, the Mayor continues to prioritize Kits Pool through our discussions and in public forums over the past few months.
As mentioned in our previous update, the feasibility study for the new Kits Pool is underway. We have been engaged in the process and will have more information to provide on that front in May.
We want to draw your attention to an aspect of the new Kits Pool that is generating momentum, and one that illustrates technological innovation and a combination of environmental and fiscal sustainability.
Kits Pool Swimmers has partnered with MintGreen (https://mintgreen.co/) to explore the feasibility of integrating a cutting-edge Digital Boiler into the infrastructure of the new Kits Pool. This innovative technology would occupy minimal space on-site while efficiently heating the pool year-round. In addition to providing sustainable heating, the system would generate Bitcoin, transforming pool heating from a cost burden into a revenue-generating asset. By eliminating a major financial barrier, this solution could pave the way for a year-round swimming season.
Our focus currently is to contribute to the feasibility study for the new pool, while investigating the merits of forming a nonprofit entity for Kits Pool Swimmers. Doing so will provide the structure to raise support and funding to enhance the new Kits Pool and ensure that the strong community support is harnessed and effective in realizing the best possible infrastructure outcome combined with long-term oversight and participation in the pool’s mandate.
The decision last night to proceed with a 25m pool for the Vancouver Aquatic Centre demonstrates the importance of a well-organized, long-term approach - and we are working toward that to advocate and act on behalf of the Kits Pool Swimmers community.
